problem with upload |
After an apparent failed attempt, I have successfully uploaded a video file to an ftp directory (/NewsFromNeptune-Video-2010-03-05), but when I try to check-in the item using the proper link
http://www.archive.org/checkin/NewsfromNeptune-Video-2010-03-05, I get the following response:
"Checking item dir...
Item looks OK, submitting...
Item submission error! reason: The identifier chosen is already taken. You will need to try an alternate identifier"
Looking around the forums, some people have been getting similar errors, but they have been using the http upload process. Could you either tell me what needs to be done or somehow check this item in so that it appears at the following page:
http://www.archive.org/details/NewsFromNeptune-Video-2010-03-05The above page already exists.
Thanks!

Re: problem with upload |
you started the item out as an http upload, not an ftp upload.
so you have to visit
http://www.archive.org/edit/NewsFromNeptune-Video-2010-03-05now and use the *HTTP* uploader to add file(s).
(FTP can only be used for new items).

Re: problem with upload |
Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry about the confusion. I had been experimenting with different methods.
In any event, I am using FTP because the HTTP method doesn't work for me. I am using a Linux machine and I've tried both Firefox and Epiphany browsers. I've also tried the share button on the editing tool page as well as the method for UNIX users described in the right hand box of the same page. It will not allow me to add anything to a document to page that already exists. The little wheel keeps going round, but no bits are flowing. I have also previously used the HTTP method to create a new test document, but when it comes time to change it by adding a new file, the same thing happens.
Maybe it will be easist to just remove my document/page at:
http://www.archive.org/details/NewsFromNeptune-Video-2010-03-05Hopefully this will allow me to recycle NewsFromNeptune-Video-2010-03-05
Thanks!

Re: problem with upload |
for what it's worth, we recently uncovered the fact that firefox will
*not* http upload a file >2GB under any circumstances
(even w/o flash and the simplest file upload http vanilla post form).
we've updated our website to note that when a client visits us with
firefox.
